You've been asked to share your banking info

A company that pays you has requested your banking details so they can pay you by direct bank deposit (ACH). This is secure — here's what to do.

Step 1: You received a link

Someone from a company that pays you sent you a secure email or text message. It contains a link to provide your banking information so they can pay you by direct bank transfer (ACH).

Step 2: Take a photo of a voided check

Get a blank check from your chequebook. Write "VOID" across it in large letters — this prevents it from being used as a real check. Take a clear photo or scan. Make sure the numbers at the bottom of the check are readable.

Step 3: Upload and submit

Click the link, then tap or click the upload area to attach your check photo. Click Submit. That's it — you'll see a confirmation that your information was received.

Tips for a good check photo

  • Use good lighting — avoid shadows over the numbers at the bottom.
  • Make sure the entire check is in frame, including all four corners.
  • Hold steady — blurry photos make it hard to read the routing and account numbers.
  • A scan is even better if you have access to a scanner.

Your information is secure

  • The link you received is unique to you and can only be used once.
  • Your banking information is encrypted as soon as it is reviewed and approved — it is never stored in plain text.
  • Your information is used only by the company that requested it to make ACH payments to you.
  • A human at that company reviews your submission before it is saved — they will contact you if there are any questions.

Common questions

I don't have checks. What else can I use?

A bank letter showing your account and routing number works. You can get one from your bank's mobile app (look for "Direct Deposit form") or by calling your bank.

The link says it's expired. What do I do?

Links expire after 72 hours. Contact the company that sent you the request and ask them to send a new link.

Is this a scam?

Legitimate banking info requests come from a company you already work with. If you don't recognise the company in the portal, call them directly using a number you already have (not from the email) to verify. Do not submit if you're uncertain.
